The project aims to develop reliable monitoring systems for the real-time detection of mission-critical infrastructure failures from a risk-aware and video analytics perspective. The sensor network provides real-time data that will be used to detect infrastructure risks and to update models of critical infrastructure interdependencies during failure events. Redundancy is built into the system so that the loss of a sensor or communication system will not impact the monitoring system efficiency. A multi-sensor data fusion mechanism with intelligent, task-directed information-gathering features will be used for the integration of heterogeneous sensory data into a composite model of the monitored systems, which minimizes communication delay problems and is constantly updated by minimizing the gap between the model’s prediction and the observed phenomena.
